The band leads a pretty hectic life during the summer with a schedule
that
would kill lesser folks. A typical schedule
for the season has the band playing in about 25 parades and
competing
in 4 to 9 games depending on the grade.
On September 11, 2007 the band performed at the Rememberance Park across from the World Trade Center site in New York City. The local news visited and recorded the band's practice prior to the trip and posted it on their website.
After a long ride down Rt 81/17 to the city the group rolled in around Midnight on the 10th and were up bright and early on 9/11 to perform. Next they went to a memorial in Central Park. It was a memorial event that the band members were proud to be a part of and contribute to the memory of the emergency workers who gave their lives on that terrible day.
The band competed in the 1999 World Pipe Band Championship on Glasgow Green. The sun beamed brightly on the band as they marched into the circle, through their performance and for the march off. We retrieved our capes and the skies opened up to rain on and off for the rest of the day. We came up in the middle of the standings again with a seventeenth out of field of thirty-six. The thrill of the event is something that will remain with us for a long time.
The band is a diverse group with ages between 14 to those AARP eligible; tradesmen, students, teachers, engineers, clergy, bagpipe makers, nurses, doctors and lawyers. Their common tie is the desire to learn, play well, entertain, drink good beer, and generally have a good time.
We are currently seeking to increase our side drum corp. If you are in the Central New York region and would like to try your hand at Scottish Pipe Band Drumming please contact the address below.
